Fun Things to do in St. Louis for Halloween
As the days begin to shorten and dusk falls earlier, it’s the best time to get into the Halloween spirit. In St. Louis, there is no shortage of spooky, scary, frighteningly exciting events for both kids and adults leading up to Halloween. Here are a few of our favorite picks for you and your family.
Halloween Events for the Kids
Gumbo Flats Pumpkin Run & Children’s Fun Run:
For running enthusiasts and active families, the town of Chesterfield holds a 5k and 10k walk-run event on Saturday, October 24. This all-ages event includes a half-mile Children’s Fun Run for kids age 10 and under. Runners receive free t-shirts on a first-come-first serve basis. First, second, and third place runners receive an award, while Children’s Fun Run participants receive a certificate of completion. Pumpkin carving with the St. Louis County Parks and Recreation
On Sunday October 25, join a Park Ranger for a pumpkin carving in Suson Park (at the Spindler Shelter). Pumpkins and carving tools will be provided; feel free to bring your own design! Open to kids and adults. Price is $10 per person. Reservations are required; call 314-615-5386.
Pumpkin Glow at the Historic St. Charles
Along Main Street in St. Charles, take a stroll with your family through the historic district, which is aglow with illuminated jack-o-lanterns. Costumes are welcome; this is sure to be a photogenic event! Businesses along the way provide treats and snacks. The event takes place 5 to 8pm on both Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24. Hoot & Howell at Powell
For your little music lovers, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra holds an afternoon “spooktacular concert” featuring enigmatic music from favorite childhood stories. This year, they feature “Night on Bald Mountain” from Disney’s Fantasia and “Hedwig’s Theme” from the Harry Potter Recommended for children ages 5-12; takes place at Powell Hall. Once Upon a Bash, Magical Masquerade Ball
On Halloween day, from 10am to noon, Once Upon a Bash holds a Magical Masquerade Ball for kids of all ages. Come by for a meet and greet with your favorite fairy tale characters; costumes are encouraged! Halloween Events for Adults
Gateway Arch 50th Anniversary Celebration
Though it’s not necessarily Halloween related, the famous Gateway Arch turns 50 years old this October. Arch 50 Fest takes place on Saturday October 24, open to visitors of all ages. This family-friendly event includes food and drink vendors, live music, and activities and games for kids. At nightfall, fireworks close out the celebration. A series of satellite events, including a historical lecture as well as a meet-and-greet with the Arch’s builders are planned. Lemp Mansion Halloween Bash
There has long been debate about whether the Lemp Mansion is haunted, so what better place to party on Halloween night? The Halloween Bash takes place on October 31, from 8pm to 12:30am, complete with appetizers, drinks, live music, and a dance floor. This year, the Lemp Mansion Bash also includes Halloween Vow Renewals as well as a scavenger hunt through its spooky rooms and corridors. Reservations are required.
