Appointment Process

Medical testing can be stressful for many people. Greentree Hearing and Audiology wants to make sure you have a stress-free experience while receiving audiology services in our office. We strive to make the environment as calm and relaxing as possible so you don't feel rushed or pressured. To help better prepare you for what to expect when visiting our office for hearing testing, the following is a quick overview of our process:

  1. Each person will be given the required paperwork to fill out before their appointment.
  2. A hearing test(s) is administered and takes place in a noise controlled sound booth. The following are the different tests a person may receive:
    1. Pure Tone Audiometry test
    2. Speech Audiometry test
    3. Auditory Brainstem Response (usually done with infants and small children)
    4. Tympanometry test
  3. The Audiologist will discuss your hearing concerns, lifestyle, and the results of your test, known as an Audiogram, with you in order to determine if there is hearing loss.
  4. If hearing loss is present the Audiologist will discuss treatment options with you.
  5. If you will benefit from hearing aids, and choose this option, the Audiologist will begin a hearing aid evaluation to help you pick the hearing aids that will work best for you, your hearing needs, and lifestyle.

For more information on each step of our appointment process, go to the hearing test page under the service tab. Please feel free to call our office with any further questions.

Signs of Hearing Loss

Hearing loss can be caused by many different things including age, extended exposure to loud noises, disease, and illness. Some hearing loss occurs gradually, such as with age, while hearing loss due to illness or disease may occur more quickly. When experiencing gradual hearing loss it may be more difficult to recognize when you are no longer picking up the subtle sounds around you. Here are a few signs you may be experiencing hearing loss:

  • Increased difficulty understanding people talking or whispering
  • Increased difficulty following a conversation with someone in a crowded area
  • Asking others to repeat themselves more often
  • Increasing the volume on the tv or phone
  • Avoiding activities you once enjoyed
  • Noises are more muffled
  • Increased isolation

If you are concerned about hearing loss or have experienced some of the signs above, it is best to get your hearing evaluated.

Hearing Loss and Withdrawal

Though it may not seem it would be a side effect of hearing loss, isolation and withdrawal are very common in those who have difficulty hearing. This is due to the stress and frustration associated with trying to hear others and stay engaged in social settings.

Many people may become agitated or frustrated when constantly having to repeat themselves for people who struggle to hear them. This can cause anxiety and avoidance in the future for those affected by hearing loss. The individual with hearing loss may also feel they are unable to understand and stay engaged in conversations and struggle more intensely in group settings.

There have been several research studies that have found that hearing loss that is left untreated can lead to depressive symptoms. If you notice a family member or friend becoming more withdrawn or avoiding activities, providing support and asking questions about their behavior change could be beneficial in finding the next step to help increase their quality of life.

Yes, we can. Tinnitus is often correlated to a treatable hearing loss. Amplification often helps reduce the severity of the tinnitus. When amplification alone isn’t enough, we have additional tinnitus solutions to help you. Contact us to schedule a consultation here.
Approximately 10% of adults in the US, or 25 million Americans, have experienced a ringing of the ears – otherwise known as tinnitus – for at least five minutes, and in some cases, for longer stretches of time. Often times, tinnitus is an indicator of hearing loss. The Hearing Health Foundation estimates that 90% of tinnitus cases occur with an underlying hearing loss, and that 60% of veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan reported tinnitus and hearing loss.

Tinnitus causes a ringing, clicking, knocking, whistling or other distracting sound in the ear, without the stimulus of an external noise. It is most commonly heard only by the person who experiences tinnitus. Due to the debilitating and frustrating effects of tinnitus, people who suffer from the condition have a higher risk of stress and anxiety disorders.

Greentree Audiology is rated 4.8 out of 5 based on 250 reviews from around the Web.
I got my first pair of hearing Aids on July 2, 2018. John was very good to see they were fitted and adjusted properly on my first visit. I called him on several occasions and he took care of everything fast and to my satisfaction. I have not required any other visits. Good job John!
